It has been almost 90 years since the former owner, Tomoichi Yamada, opened a secondhand bookstore in 1936.
The store went through and survived the turbulent times during and after World War II.
At first it mainly specialized in first edition books, but later expanded its business to ukiyo-e with encouragement from an ukiyo-e researcher, Kendo Ishii. Then the field gradually grew to include shin-hanga and sosaku-hanga.
Today, thanks to the internet, we are able to show you many more items online than we can display in our store.
